Law enforcement officers in Kyiv's Svyatoshyn district uncovered an illegal scheme for distributing psychotropic substances carried out by two young men. During a patrol, officers from the local police department noticed two men exhibiting suspicious behaviour.
Division of roles in the criminal scheme
During a check of the pedestrians, police found packages containing a substance resembling a narcotic on them. Subsequently, the investigation established that the suspects acted by prior agreement, with a clear division of functions.
One of the detained individuals was responsible for physically placing the psychotropic substances in specially prepared drop spots. His accomplice recorded the locations where the drugs were left and transmitted the corresponding coordinates to potential buyers.
Packets seized directly from their hands
During a personal search, 10 packets containing white powder were found on one of the district residents. His companion was found to have another 92 similar packages.
During questioning by law enforcement, the detainees indicated locations where they had already managed to leave part of the goods. There, police found four more packets. In total, 106 packets containing amphetamine were seized. All samples were handed over to experts for testing.
Charges filed under group offence
Both suspects were detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigators from the Svyatoshyn Police Department, under the procedural supervision of the Svyatoshyn District Prosecutor's Office, informed the young men of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
They are charged with the illegal acquisition, storage with the intent to sell, and distribution of psychotropic substances, committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy. If the court proves their guilt, the suspects face a penalty of up to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Recall that recently, Kyiv law enforcement officers dismantled another drug distribution channel. According to the investigation, a 45-year-old resident of the capital was involved in it, who concealed cannabis in household goods and delivered it to customers by post or in person. The total value of the seized narcotic substances is estimated at approximately 320,000 hryvnia.
