Man detained in Kyiv after firing starter pistol from balcony three times

Kyiv patrol police detained a resident of an apartment building who opened fire from a balcony. It emerged that the suspect was in a state of alcohol intoxication.

Circumstances of the incident

According to law enforcement data, the man fired three shots from a starter pistol. His actions frightened residents of the area.

«Чоловік, перебуваючи у стані алкогольного сп'яніння, здійснив три постріли зі стартового пістолета, чим налякав мешканців району» ("A man, while in a state of alcohol intoxication, fired three shots from a starter pistol, thereby frightening residents of the area"), the police statement reads.

Investigation results

During the detention, the man was unable to explain the motives behind his actions due to severe intoxication. A breathalyser test showed a blood alcohol level of 1.53 per mille.

Criminal liability

The detainee has been charged under Part 1 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (hooliganism). This offence carries a penalty of restriction of liberty for up to five years.
