Washington has temporarily suspended the transfer of munitions to its partners. The main reason cited for this decision is the need to replenish the United States' own strategic reserves.
Donald Trump spoke about this in an interview with the Newsmax channel. According to the head of state, Washington is currently retaining munitions for its own needs.
«Ми зараз залишаємо боєприпаси собі, оскільки вони потрібні нам самим. Як тільки ми серйозно поповнимо свої арсенали, ми знову дозволимо союзникам закуповувати їх у нас» ("We are keeping the munitions for ourselves right now, because we need them ourselves. As soon as we have seriously replenished our arsenals, we will once again allow allies to purchase them from us"), the US President emphasised.
The politician did not provide specific details on which items were subject to the export ban or when supplies are expected to resume.
Meanwhile, Trump noted that the American defence industry is actively increasing the production of Patriot and Tomahawk missiles.
It is worth noting that due to the suspension of supplies, Ukraine has effectively lost access to US air defence missiles and can no longer effectively intercept Russian ballistic strikes.
As previously reported, the US faced a severe shortage of anti-missile systems for Patriot and THAAD. Even with a complete cessation of their use, it will not be possible to restore stockpiles before 2030.
