Second prison term for sabotage activities

A judge handed down an additional verdict to one of the members of a Russian intelligence-combat group, whose members were detained by the Security Service of Ukraine in the summer of 2024 in the Kharkiv region. Law enforcement officers then apprehended four criminals involved in the explosion of a Ukrainian defender's vehicle, which caused severe injuries to the serviceman.

Punishment for arson of railway infrastructure

Previously, in August of this year, the defendant was already sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. This time, the court imposed a similar punishment — 15 years in prison — for a different criminal act: the destruction by fire of two Ukrzaliznytsia relay cabinets.

According to SBU data, the perpetrator was an ordinary odd-job worker from the suburbs of Kharkiv. He was recruited by Russian special services through an acquaintance who is a fighter in the so-called "DNR special forces." To carry out the attack on railway infrastructure, the man purchased flammable liquid, which he poured onto the electrical equipment.

Qualification of the crime

In light of new evidence, the court qualified the agent's actions as an attempted act of sabotage under martial law conditions.
