Recruited soldier returns to unit

The Security Service of Ukraine announced the detention of a soldier from the Poltava region, who is suspected of treason in favour of Russia. According to the investigation, the mobilised man was recruited by representatives of Russian special services.

It was established that after leaving his military unit without permission (AWOL), the man returned to his unit. There, he gathered intelligence data and passed it to the enemy. In particular, the soldier provided Russian special services with the geolocation of the battalion's deployment point, which allowed for the correction of strikes.

Detention and potential punishment

After this, the soldier left the unit again, explaining it as a need to go to a hospital. Law enforcement officers detained him in Kremenchuk. SBU investigators informed the detainee of the suspicion of committing a crime under the article on treason.

Currently, the court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention without the right to bail. If found guilty in court, the accused faces punishment in the form of life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
