Concern over Washington's demands
An atmosphere of deep concern prevails in the immediate circle of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The cause is Donald Trump's public stance, demanding the change of the head of the Ukrainian state. A key issue for the leader's advisers is the risk that the United States may completely cease transferring intelligence information to Kyiv.
Advisers' assessment of the situation
Paul Ronzheimer, a journalist for the publication Bild, revealed details of internal discussions, citing a source who is a close adviser to Zelensky. According to the interlocutor, the president's team was aware that during the pre-election campaign ahead of the US midterms, Ukraine would again find itself in the centre of attention for American politicians. However, the scale and nature of the pressure were unexpected.
«Ми розуміли, що під час кампанії перед проміжними виборами знову опинимося в центрі уваги. Але такого ми не очікували» (We understood that during the campaign before the midterms we would again find ourselves in the centre of attention. But we did not expect this), emphasised a representative of Zelensky's circle.
Seeking support in Europe
As Ronzheimer notes, the Ukrainian president's advisers are currently actively establishing contacts with European partners. The greatest concern is the possibility that Trump will actually halt intelligence cooperation between the US and Ukraine.
