Negotiations on the sale of foreign assets

Vladimir Putin offered American representatives to sell the foreign assets of the Russian oil company Lukoil to investors from their circle. This is reported by The New York Times.

According to the publication, on 5 September, during a meeting at the Kremlin, the President of Russia discussed with Donald Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner the possibility of selling Lukoil's foreign refineries and gas stations. The estimated value of these assets is approximately $20 billion.

Potential buyers and deal terms

Among the potential buyers mentioned in the article are Qatari entrepreneurs who previously invested funds in Jared Kushner's hotel. Also among the candidates are a fund from Abu Dhabi that invested in the Trump family's crypto project, as well as Todd Boehly, who was a sponsor of his election campaign.

Putin viewed this potential deal as a possible step towards restoring business relations between Russia and the United States. To implement such a transaction, approval from the US Department of the Treasury is required.

Trump team's position

In Donald Trump's team, they emphasise that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are performing their duties without pay. They do not expect to receive personal benefit from the aforementioned deal.
