The Russian army carried out a large-scale combined attack on Ukrainian territory on the night of 14 October. This was reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Characteristics of the enemy strike

According to radio engineering troops data, 167 aerial attack assets were detected from 18:00 on 13 October. The main vector of the attack was directed at Kyiv, the Kyiv region, and the Kharkiv region. The Russians simultaneously employed various means of fire from different directions, including a large number of ballistic missiles targeting energy infrastructure facilities.

The composition of the enemy's attack assets included:

  • 39 anti-ship missiles of the Iskander-M, KN-23, S-400, Zircon, and Oniks types. Launches were carried out from the territory of the Kursk, Bryansk, Voronezh, and Rostov regions;
  • 128 strike unmanned aerial vehicles, including 77 jet-powered Shahed-type drones, as well as Banderol/Dan-T, Gerbera, Italmas, and Parodiya-type decoy drones.

Air defence results

As of 09:00 on 14 October, air defence systems destroyed or suppressed 119 targets. Specifically, shot down:

  • 4 ballistic missiles (Iskander-M, KN-23, S-400, Zircon, Oniks);
  • 115 enemy UAVs of various types, of which 59 were jet-powered. This accounts for 90% of the total number of strike drones used.

Some Russian missiles did not reach their targets.

Consequences for infrastructure and people

Preliminary information indicates that as of the morning of 14 October, missile and drone impacts were recorded at 22 locations, while debris from destroyed targets fell in 8 places.

The enemy launched the first wave of ballistic missiles around 23:00. The main target was the Kyiv TEC-4 power plant. Meanwhile, an enemy projectile hit a nine-storey residential building. As a result, at least two people were killed, and over 20 were injured.

It is known that American partners did not provide advance warning of the launches, so the Ukrainian side detected the missiles only as they approached the city, which effectively left no time for reaction after the alert was declared.

The second wave of the ballistic strike began after 04:00. The enemy carried out serial launches at intervals over several hours. In addition to energy facilities, significant damage was sustained by railway infrastructure in various regions of the country.
