Moldova returned two border guards to Ukraine who had been detained for crossing the border

Moldovan authorities handed over two servicemen of the State Border Guard Service to Ukrainian representatives. They were detained on the territory of the neighbouring state following an incident on the Dniester River.

Circumstances of the river incident

It is reported that Ukrainian border guards were pursuing a citizen who attempted to illegally swim across the Dniester to enter Moldova. During this operation, the boat carrying the law enforcement officers docked at the Moldovan bank. This became the grounds for their detention for the fact of illegal crossing of the state border.

Handover under a readmission agreement

After the detention, the two Ukrainian servicemen were handed over to representatives of the Ukrainian authorities. This procedure took place on the basis of the current international readmission agreement.

The pursued man remained in Moldova

The man whom the border guards were pursuing remained on Moldovan territory. He was hospitalised in a hospital in the city of Soroki with a diagnosis of a concussion.
