The French government is preparing for new protests scheduled for next Saturday. The country's Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, confirmed that the deployment of police forces to maintain order will be extensive.
Assessment of the situation following the 17 October unrest
Speaking on Tuesday to members of the National Assembly, the head of government drew conclusions from the events of 17 October. That day was marked by mass unrest across France. Lecornu acknowledged that police presence at the time had significant shortcomings: it was "too static and not mobile enough".
Preparation for new demonstrations
According to the Prime Minister, the interior minister has already issued the relevant instructions to the prefectures.
"The deployment of forces next Saturday will be large-scale," Lecornu emphasised, underlining that the positioning of police units ahead of the new protests would be extensive.
The newspaper Le Figaro is reporting on these government intentions.
