Prime Minister comments on the status of the conscription exemption reform

Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky emphasised that the proposed amendments to the mechanism for exempting employees from conscription do not envisage radical innovations for enterprises that are critically important for the defence and energy sectors.

The head of the government made these remarks during a question hour session with the government.

Decision not yet adopted

According to Koretsky, the relevant resolution is at the stage of refinement. He stressed that the document will definitely be finalised, adopted, and published.

“This resolution is in the process of being worked on; it will definitely be refined, adopted, and published. There is no betrayal there. All details will be available precisely when they are published and all relevant decisions are made,” the Prime Minister noted.

The head of the government added that the current scepticism regarding possible changes is unfounded, as no final decisions have been made at this time.

Guarantees for the defence and energy complexes

Koretsky acknowledged that the mobilisation and conscription exemption system requires improvement, and that the General Staff has a need for military personnel. That is why, he said, work in this direction is ongoing.

“There is nothing to criticise right now. The fact that the mobilisation and conscription exemption system is subject to improvement is an indisputable fact. The fact that the General Staff needs soldiers is a fact. That is why we are working exactly this way right now,” the Prime Minister explained.

He assured that enterprises that are truly critical for the defence and energy complexes should not worry.

“There is no reason for critical enterprises that are truly critical for both the defence complex and the energy complex to worry. I can say with confidence that there will be no radical changes for these people, for these production facilities,” Serhiy Koretsky emphasised.
