Plans for technology implementation

Former Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Fedotov told Forbes-Ukraine about an initiative to produce robotic systems for the army. The politician, who is currently in opposition to the current authorities, intends to launch the production of machines designed for assault tasks. However, according to him, there are currently no official agreements with state structures regarding the implementation of the project.

Specifications and development timelines

According to the project initiator, the first working prototype is expected to appear within one month. Fedotov clarifies that at the initial stage, this is not a full-fledged classic humanoid model, but a device that only resembles a human in appearance. The main goal of such machines is to perform specific functions of infantrymen and assault troops directly on the front line.

The main tasks for the robots include:

  • reloading machine guns;
  • replacing batteries in sensor devices;
  • launching unmanned aerial vehicles.

The development team is currently studying the activities of an enterprise that already has a ready prototype and is potentially capable of scaling the production of such products.

Cost and project goals

Currently, the cost of similar robotic systems is estimated at between $40,000 and $70,000. However, as Fedotov notes, significantly cheaper analogues are needed for mass application in the army, with prices ranging from $10,000 to $20,000.

Previously, the politician also announced his ambitious goal: to achieve the ability to destroy the first enemy using a robot within six months.

Status of relations with the state

The question of the project's official status remains open. Fedotov provided no explanations regarding the existence of agreements with the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine concerning future purchases of such equipment for combat use. It is also unclear whether he has a corresponding mandate from state leadership to develop or finance weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

There is a likelihood that this project is being launched at the developer's own risk, in the expectation that President Volodymyr Zelensky will eventually decide on state purchases of similar equipment.
