Estonia plans to increase its financial support for Ukraine. The state will allocate an additional EUR 10m through the PURL mechanism, which is implemented within the framework of NATO.
Details of meeting with Alliance leadership
Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal announced the new funding. He shared this information during talks with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, the Estonian government's press service reported.
Stance on Russian aggression
According to Michal, Russia's actions and the growing number of hybrid attacks aim to divert attention from support for Ukraine. The Prime Minister emphasised that allies will jointly respond to the challenges created by Moscow and will continue to provide support to Kyiv.
"Цього року наша військова допомога Україні становить 0,28% ВВП. Минулого року цей показник становив 0,35%. Ми також надали Україні 21 млн євро в межах ініціативи PURL і незабаром виділимо на цей механізм ще 10 млн євро", - зазначив Міхал. ("This year, our military aid to Ukraine amounts to 0.28% of GDP. Last year, this figure was 0.35%. We have also provided Ukraine with EUR 21m within the PURL initiative and will soon allocate another EUR 10m to this mechanism," Michal noted.)
The head of the Estonian government also expressed hope that other Alliance members will find ways to increase their contribution to supporting Kyiv.
Prospects for NATO membership
Kristen Michal added that Ukraine's membership in NATO would be its "most reliable long-term security guarantee and would be beneficial for all allies".
