Circumstances of the incident

The morning of 2 October in the city of Novomoskovsk in Russia's Tula region was interrupted by a serious incident. A car exploded on Druzhby Street. According to data released by sources, the explosive device was likely placed under the vehicle's chassis on the driver's side. After the detonation, the car travelled a certain distance on inertia and crashed into a support. The driver sustained severe injuries and died.

Probable identity of the deceased

The local publication "Novomoskovsk Segodnya" reported that Roman Syromyatnikov was sitting behind the wheel of the destroyed car. The mentioned publication was noticed and shared online. According to information, Syromyatnikov worked as a teacher and writer, and also took part in hostilities against Ukraine. The material described him as an "active participant in the patriotic education of youth".

The investigative platform The Insider confirmed that a person with this name did indeed teach in Novomoskovsk and had experience participating in the war against Ukraine.

Biography and accusations

Roman Syromyatnikov previously served in a parachute infantry company of the 51st Regiment of the 106th Tula Division of the Russian Airborne Forces. The Ukrainian side accused him of torturing Ukrainian prisoners of war on the territory of Tula Correctional Colony No. 1. In October 2025, his name was added to the "Myrotvorets" database.

Response of security services

According to sources, after the explosion, numerous representatives of Russian law enforcement and security agencies immediately arrived at the scene. This reaction led witnesses to assume that the deceased might have been a current or former serviceman who took part in hostilities.

Currently, official Russian authorities have not confirmed either the identity of the deceased or the version of his death resulting from the explosion.
