Poland absent from Oslo meeting

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, during a cabinet meeting, commented on the fact that his country is not represented at the negotiations regarding Ukraine taking place in Oslo. The meeting involves Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, special representatives of US President Donald Trump, as well as the leaders of Norway and Finland.

According to Tusk, among the American negotiators are Steve Witkoff, as well as Jared Kushner, who will join the discussions online. After the conclusion of the meeting in Oslo, the delegation is scheduled to travel to Moscow.

Comment on the organisation of the talks

The Polish Prime Minister noted that the host of the event in Oslo is Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, accompanied by Finnish President Alexander Stubb. Explaining the absence of the Polish side, Tusk said:

«Це якесь непорозуміння» ("This is some kind of misunderstanding").

He added that he maintains constant contact with the Norwegian Prime Minister and the Finnish President and receives information from them regarding the preparation for the meeting. Tusk also emphasised that he is promptly informed about events within the group of leaders most involved in resolving issues related to Ukraine.

Call for Western unity

The Polish Prime Minister urged not to overestimate the possible outcomes of the Oslo meeting, describing it rather as consultations and an attempt to determine whether conditions exist for achieving a ceasefire or a cessation of hostilities in Ukraine.

Tusk stressed the critical importance of unity among Western countries in supporting Ukraine and preparing for future peace negotiations. He stated:

«Ми дуже хочемо, щоб увесь Західний світ був солідарним і дуже єдиним у питанні підтримки України у війні з Росією та майбутніх, дай Боже якнайшвидших, мирних переговорів. Польща та Європа намагатимуться ефективно захистити Україну не лише від російської агресії, а й від потенційних вимог, які можуть вплинути також і на нашу безпеку» ("We very much want the entire Western world to be united in solidarity and very united in the matter of supporting Ukraine in the war with Russia and in future, God willing, as soon as possible, peace negotiations. Poland and Europe will strive to effectively protect Ukraine not only from Russian aggression but also from potential demands that may also affect our security").
