On Saturday, North Korea's state news agency KCNA released information about the testing of a new torpedo system equipped with artificial intelligence technologies. This event marked a continuation of a series of recent weapons demonstrations conducted by the country.

Zam-2.0 system specifications

According to the official statement, the tests involved a complex named Zam-2.0. The system is described as "hypersonic and highly accurate". The main feature of the torpedo is the use of artificial intelligence algorithms responsible for target detection and guidance.

The statement emphasised that the tests conducted "confirmed the operability of the weapon's propulsion systems".

Military activity context

The torpedo system tests took place against the backdrop of other military activity. As early as Wednesday, North Korea tested two types of submarine-launched strategic cruise missiles. These launches are believed to be part of a campaign to strengthen the state's naval forces. It is presumed that the missiles were launched from a submarine.

In recent weeks, North Korea has also conducted a series of ballistic missile tests. The country seeks to expand its arsenal amid rising tensions in relations with neighbouring South Korea.

Donald Trump's comments

In August, US President Donald Trump told journalists that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has "57 very powerful nuclear warheads". At the same time, the White House chief again emphasised the good relations between them.
