Emergency repair work is ongoing on the infrastructure of the Kyiv metro, which was damaged as a result of enemy shelling. According to information from Mayor Vitali Klychko, more than 70 specialists have been deployed to the site. It is planned that as early as the evening of 19 October, trains on the red line will be able to resume normal operation on the section between Lysova and Akademmistechko stations. Meanwhile, passengers will not be able to use Chernihivska station for several more days, as repair work continues there.
Vitali Klychko described the current state of the work in detail. Workers have already completed the removal of broken glass and debris. With the onset of night, complex technical operations began: restoring power supply, adjusting the train control system, and completing the repair of tracks and the contact rail.
The process is complicated by regular air raid alerts, which force crews to urgently take shelter. Despite these obstacles, the resumption of service is reaching its final stage. If no force majeure circumstances occur, trains are expected to begin running between Lysova and Akademmistechko in the evening of 19 October. In the event of missing the deadline, the launch of service will be postponed to the morning of the following day.
Even after train service on the red line resumes, the stop at Chernihivska station will not occur immediately. Vehicles will pass through this station without stopping, as necessary repair work will continue there for several more days. The station will be opened for passenger boarding and alighting only after it has been fully restored to a proper condition and all technical procedures have been completed.
In order to reduce the load on the metro and facilitate the movement of city residents, the number of buses on key routes in Kyiv has been increased. Three additional buses have been deployed to temporary route No. 1-M, which connects Lysova and Darnytsia stations. Another 12 buses will operate on the route from Lysova to Palats Sportu.
This decision is intended to help passengers reach the central part of the city and reduce the crowding at Darnytsia station. In addition, surface transport serves as an important alternative for movement during air raid alerts.
