End of a one-year pause in the management of the oblast council

The Cherkasy Oblast Council has finally determined its new leader. After a long year without a chair, the parliamentary majority elected Oleh Kuklin to the post, who is a representative of the Servant of the People party.

The decision was made during a secret ballot: 45 deputies voted for Kuklin's candidacy. At that point, no alternative candidates for the position had been put forward.

History of the vacancy and previous attempts

The post of chair of the Cherkasy Oblast Council had remained vacant since 17 October 2025, when Anatoliy Pidhornyi resigned from it. During this period, Roman Sushchenko, who represents the Eurosolidarity party, was acting as the head.

Previously, several attempts were made to elect a new chair, but these initiatives ended in failure. In particular, Yevheniy Kurbet and Anatoliy Yarish did not receive the required number of votes.
