Court rulings on preventive measures
The court ruled to remand Ivan Tymoshenko, former head of the Department of Information Technologies at the Office of the Prosecutor General, in custody for 60 days. He was allowed to post bail in the amount of 8 million hryvnias. This was reported by a correspondent of 'Suspilne' from the courtroom.
Difference between prosecution demands and court decision
The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) had previously petitioned to detain the suspect in custody with an alternative bail of 100 million hryvnias. However, the court instance set an amount 12.5 times lower than that proposed by the prosecutors.
Circumstances of the 'Carthage' case
Ivan Tymoshenko is under suspicion within the framework of a criminal case known as the 'Carthage' operation. According to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the SAP, he played one of the key roles in the mechanism for receiving bribes for non-interference in the operations of fraudulent call centres.
It is worth noting that the selection of a preventive measure does not confirm the guilt of the suspect. The final decision regarding his fate must be made by the court.
