A working body will be formed at the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine to address the issue of identifying the bodies of fallen defenders. The primary objective of this structure will be to expedite the procedure for establishing the identities of the deceased, as well as to improve the quality of the examinations conducted.
NSDC Secretary Igor Klymenko announced the plans to create the new structure.
According to Igor Klymenko, for loved ones waiting to learn the fate of those missing in action, prolonged waiting is an additional source of suffering. Therefore, the state is obliged to ensure the acceleration of the relevant processes while guaranteeing the high quality of the examinations conducted.
The NSDC Secretary emphasised that for families, specific answers are critically important, rather than explanations for the slow functioning of the system.
"For families, explanations of why the system is working slowly are not important. They need answers," Klymenko emphasised. (For families, explanations of why the system is working slowly are not important. They need answers)
In accordance with the President of Ukraine's instruction, priority steps to resolve the problem have already been identified. The government must strengthen the forensic examination system. This involves increasing the staff of specialists and creating appropriate conditions for their work.
In addition, the opening of specialised forensic examination bureaus in the regions is planned, which will be exclusively focused on identifying the bodies of military personnel.
The new working body will unite all responsible state structures. As Igor Klymenko noted, this approach will allow for a holistic view of the entire process: identifying where delays occur, which decisions are lacking, and who is responsible for their implementation.
From now on, oversight of this work will be conducted directly at the NSDC level.
